God's Word for Today Romans 3b

March 8, 2012

Paul has already condemned the immoral unbelieving people in chapter 1, and then also the Jews in chapter 2 who boasted about having the Law and he continues this here in chapter 3. Paul asks, if any group of people is bettor or more righteous before God than another?  The answer is no, there is none righteous.   So it doesn't make any difference, we all are under sin. So you are no better off being a Jew or Gentile as far as this is concerned; we are all sinners.

In the first section of Romans 3 we will look at today  there are three groups of charges against mankind.   The first concerns our character (verses 10-12), the second concerns our conversation (speech)  (verses 13-14), and the third concerns our conduct (verses 15-17).

He first speaks about our character, saying there is none righteous, and none who seek after God.  Yes, people can do good things, but they don’t have a spiritual goodness, righteousness like God has, a righteousness that God requires, on their own.  His first quotation, or witness called to the stand to testify against us in God’s court, was Psalms 14:3 but notice Psalms  เพลงสดุดี 14:1-3. 1The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”

They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds,  there is none who does good.

2The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.

2พระเจ้าทรงมองลงมาจากฟ้าสวรรค์ดูลูกหลานของมนุษย์   ว่าจะมีคนใดบ้างที่ฉลาดที่เสาะแสวงหาพระเจ้า

3They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good,

not even one.

3เขาทั้งหลายหลงเจิ่นไปหมด   และเลวทรามลงเหมือนกันสิ้น   ไม่มีสักคนเดียวที่ทำดี

Paul quotes from this Psalm, and it is an amazing statement that God has made. He said, "There is none who are seeking after God." On our own, apart from faith in Christ we don’t seek after God.  Man in himself cannot please God, because he has no spiritual good.  Thankfully He looked for us and drew us to Himself, and now we can seek to know Him better.  Many people say, "all religions are good. Some people spend hours in meditation, they try to do good things.  They are not seeking after God. If they are not seeking after God, then what are they seeking after?  They are seeking after a peace of mind.  But true peace only comes from knowing God.
