TITLE:
Beautiful rock formations at Krabi
DESCRIPTION:
Krabi town is
very close to the river mouth that opens to
the great Andaman Sea. Krabi river flows a
few miles through the town and opens into
the Andaman sea. Krabi is a province,
as well as a city. The provincial
capital is 520 miles south of Bangkok, about
an hour and a half flight. Krabi has beaches
and bays, and numerous offshore tropical
islands. Krabi is divided into eight
districts : Muang (Krabi Town), Kao Panom,
Klong Tom, Plai Praya, Koh Lanta, Ao Luk,
Lam Tap, and Neua Klong. Neua
Klong was where I was most of the time.
The boundaries of Krabi on the north Is Phang-nga and Surat Thani Provinces On the south Is Trang province and the Andaman Sea On the east Is Trang and Nakorn Sri Thammarat Provinces. On the west Is Phang-nga Province and the Andaman Sea. Sunday morning Pi Yong and I went to Krabi Baptist church, his first time to ever enter a church. We met Bob and Jean Spears IMB missionaries from Oklahoma and 12 other disaster relief volunteers from Oklahoma. Jean is the sister in law of Lee Mc Clung (Hayden's wife, Hayden was my American Literature professor at CBU). They have served as missionaries in Thailand for five years and so are completely fluent in Thai. He gave the morning message, translating for himself into English. Pi Yong seemed to enjoy the service. He sang along with the songs and clapped his hands, he laughed and smiled frequently. He gave to the offering. They served lunch immediately after the service and we stayed. I asked the pastor for a Thai Bible he gave me 5 New Testaments in Thai only and 5 in English and Thai from the Gideon’s. I presented Pi Yong with one of each, and he was reading from them daily and showing his wife Pi Lek. Praise the Lord. I gave the others to school teachers. I can hardly describe the thrill in hearing Christian songs being sung in Thai, in a land that is so devoid of faith in God, where nearly everyone is either Buddhist or Moslem, and I am so happy that Pi Yong is receptive to the Gospel. The Oklahoma volunteers have just arrived recently and haven't been able to plug into anything to help with yet. The leader gave his testimony and Bob translated before the sermon.
The following Saturday we went into town for a teachers convention and some shopping. Sunday I taught English for one hour for some young adults with Maynee, one of the Laem Kruat school teachers. Sunday, Pi Yong took me to church again, but didn’t attend himself. Monday I taught English classes again. It was difficult to say good bye. I shook hands with nearly every student before I left.
