What is a Good
News Club?
Boys and girls ages
5 through 12 gather with their friends to sing interesting visualized
songs. They enjoy playing games that help them memorize a verse from
God's Word. Through the missionary time they learn of children around
the world who are following Jesus. The visualized Bible story applies
God's Word to what is happening in their lives. They play review games
that help them remember what was taught. An opportunity to receive Jesus
Christ as Savior is given. Activities that help them grow in Christ
are presented.
Where Does a Good
News Club Meet?
Good News Clubs meet
in the neighborhood where children live. We want to make it easy and
convenient for them to attend. They meet most often in the friendly
atmosphere of a home. This home can serve as a link between the church
and the child's home, bringing the good news right to where the child
lives. They can meet in a community center or most anywhere children
will gather together.
Who Teaches a Good
News Club?
Christians who are concerned
for boys and girls work together volunteering their time and energy
to teach Good News Clubs. They are trained by Child Evangelism Fellowship
to have a club that is exciting and informative so that children will
want to keep coming. Teachers are asked to sign the CEF® ® Statement
of Faith and agree to abide by the policies of the organization ( CEF®
is non charismatic).
What Can a Good
News Club do for My Neighborhood?
A Good News Club can
identify a home in the neighborhood that is safe for a child to go to
in time of trouble. It brings the teaching of biblical morality to his
neighborhood. It connects the child and his family to others where they
live developing a good community spirit. When you leave your home on
Sunday to go to church, others in your neighborhood know you are religious.
When you teach children in your neighborhood God's Word, your neighborhood
learns what you believe.

Yesterday
at church I was trying to help the Sunday school students grasp the idea of
what a monarchy is (being that we elect our leaders and have no royalty in
our country). It went along with the lesson. So I asked the kids if they
knew who the queen of England was, and they all seemed to know it was Queen
Elizabeth. I then asked if they knew who the king would be when she died.
Nine-year-old Michael yelled out, "Prince Caspian!" (if you don't know,
Prince Caspian is a fictitious character from the Chronicles of Narnia).
I was amused, but also pleased he is reading quality literature.
On the
way home from church, I was chatting with Gabby, Maelin, and Eric (three of
the kids from the family I drive to church). They were telling me about
their family heritage, about how they're part Irish, part Scottish, etc.
Anyway, Eric (age eight) told me, "But my friend is so lucky. He's half
pirate!" He was serious. I tried to figure out how someone could be half
pirate--since that's not a nationality! Eric wasn't able to enlighten me on
this, but he told me he wants to be a pirate so he can get Spanish Doubloons
(spelling?) one day! High ambitions. Anyway, needless to say I've been
having fun lately! Thanks for your prayers for us!

PRAISES:
*Our
first two meetings with the Remnant (junior high summer missionary team)
have gone over relatively smoothly.
*The
Sunday school students are making strong spiritual resolves in their lives.
*Good
News Clubs are still going strong.
*Students
are remembering what was taught previously and are able to apply it to
current lessons.
PRAYER
REQUESTS:
*For my
weekly Wednesday/Friday meetings with the Remnant. Pray it will be
meaningful to them. I have four students--Scott, Gabby, Jessica and Alex.
They all have very different personalities and priorities on the team (one
is a class clown, one is somewhat manipulative, and the other two are
timid). Pray I will really have the Lord's wisdom in working with them. I
already changed some things I was planning to do, just so that it would be
more meaningful to them. The class clown drives me to distraction, although
I laugh about it after I drop everyone off and go home!
*Continued financial support. God is taking care of my needs. Pray I will
be wise as He provides.
*Wisdom!!!!!!! My church is taking a
two-week mission trip to Taiwan in early August. I was asked to be a part
of that. I'm not 100% sure if the Lord is leading me to do so or not. Pray
I will make the right choice. I've been pondering it for a few weeks now.
What I'd be doing would kind of go hand in hand with my CEF work, in that
I'd be teaching children in a vacation Bible school. Additionally, I'd be
teaching English classes as well.
*For
5-day clubs. I have been having some difficulties in setting them up this
year. Pray God will open the right doors in the right areas where He wants
us to teach clubs.
*My
health. I am in good health (even more so since I've been consistent in
taking my vitamins!), but have been fighting a sore throat.
